Blogging is Hard......* Kinda

Thursday, July 31, 2014

I recently found this fun July linkup from Juliette that I thought I would join in again!

So the last prompt for Blog Everyday in July is "Blogging is Hard".

So I have a few thoughts on this. First blogging is not like brain surgery. Its something you choose do to either for enjoyment or some times as a job. For me, it started out as enjoyment and has turned into a little monthly side money but its not like I break a sweat blogging. However, I do not work outside the house, I consider myself pretty tech savvy, and writing comes natural for me. I have kept a journal since I was old enough to write. I have been blogging since January 2006. YIKES! Makes me feel old! I have the first few years private because they were disaster blog posts but its been a long hobby for me.  But I really really enjoy it. I moved on into making videos a few years ago and have also been enjoying that a lot too. Blogging becomes hard for me when life becomes hard. I can't really get on here and fake it. Firstly, I want things on this blog to be true to time and true in life. Second, I am just too much of an emotional person to try to fake it until I make it. I have learned over the years of blogging that is probably not a good thing to do when you are upset. When those times roll around, I simply turn off the computer and wait until I feel better. Otherwise it will be hard to say anything nice and spread positive energy.

The other way it is " hard " is all the steps that go into a good blog post and or video. Think about it....you need to write, edit photos/videos, proof read, and publish. But it doesn't end there. I pay for a services that publishes my blog post on facebook/twitter but I always always go to my facebook accounts and share the post with more pictures. Then don't forget about making a good pin-able image for pinterest. Yep.. you know you should be doing it. Then if you join up in link ups you have to add your links to their sites for optional views. If you want your blog to be successful, you have to invest time and energy not only in the content but blog design and maintenance, advertise as much as possible, host giveaways for your wonderful.. and I mean wonderful subscribers who come back over and over to view your blog. Its not that its really hard for me, but it is totally time consuming. Another part of blogging that is hard is I basically work from home with this blog and my youtube videos. I make $300-500 a month right now and I am totally happy with that. But being its a home based job, it seems like I am always always working. The kids don't really think of it as a job, instead they see mommy sitting at the computer all day long. So balancing my time is not easy. I am always thinking about a blog post/video and its hard to turn off. That's one of the reasons planners and schedules work so well for me. I also think the reason I don't really consider it hard is because I love it so much so it does't feel like a job. I have 8 years of content right here....and if I didn't love it... I would have never ever kept up with it this long. I love documenting our lives and I love the relationships I have made over the years from this blog and my youtube channels. So for me... its not as much as it being hard but being very time consuming.

Have a beautiful and blessed night! I will be back tomorrow with my ipsy bag update and giveaway winners!

Thankful Thursday

Hello friends! I hope you are having a wonderful Thursday. I am back with this week's Thankful Thursday Post. We all should take some time to reflect on what we are really thankful for. Rather it's in a blog post or private diary, it doesn't matter. It just helps you not take things for granted and also helps bring out happiness from sometimes the most simplest of moments. Hope you enjoy.

Today I am thankful for:

♥ Brittany getting off to her first day of school. I can't believe summer is basically over for the kids. I am just thankful that she was prepared and ready this morning to start the new 2014-2015 school year.

♥ The rain this morning. We had a lot of rain last week and I quickly grew tired of it but I am thankful its coming down right now.....Peaceful start to my day.

♥ I didn't blow my temper last night with my husband. God knows I wanted to but I just did my best to shake things off and not argue.

♥ I finally deleted most people off my personal facebook account. I use to treat it like some kind of social club where anyone and everyone could follow me. Half of those people, I had no memory of. I felt it was time for a change....anyone is welcome to follow my fb fan page but you will basically need a golden ticket to be friends with me on my personal page. That's over. Plus my stalker friend was following me on there and I just couldn't stand the idea of that. It was simply time to clean house. If we are still friends on fb, there is a reason. I either have a true actual memory of you and or care about you and I am thankful for the memories I have of you.

♥ For all the evening conversations I have been having with my sister. She is growing up and everyday I learn something new about her.

♥ For warm comfy socks and sweaters. Even though its been summer, the week of rain and the rain today is cooling things off a lot. In fact, I actually slept in cozy socks. I have on cozy socks and a cozy sweater on right now and I thankful for them keeping me warm. Turning of the air also helped!

♥ For Romeo. God, I am really thankful for that kitty cat. I am thankful that he is so laid back, loving and such a lovey cuddle bug. Last night he was the sweetest thing in my bed!

♥ I am thankful for the love and support of my best friend Shanna. She has probably listened to me bitch and complain for YEARS and is still simply the best friend I have. She is amazing and I am thankful for all the love, support, and direct words ( when needed ) and I hope I can be half the friend to her as she has been to me.

♥ My mom and I worked through a emotional situation with grace. Life is still complicated at times with my parents but this time we worked through everything without too many emotions. There is no one on the planet that will stand between my mom and myself. I am thankful for every moment I have with her.

♥ I have managed to stay awake to the end of my prayers. A lot of times I fall asleep while praying but here lately I have been awake long enough to actually finish. Thank you God for listening.

♥ I am thankful Jackson is coming home this weekend. He will be upset on Sunday. He is always very emotional coming or going but its time to get going with the new school year. Its crazy Brittany starts 18 days before him but we still have a lot to do to get ready.

Have a great day. I will be back in a bit with a new organization video! Stay tuned.

Sorry...I'm NOT Sorry

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

I recently found this fun July linkup from Juliette that I thought I would join in a little late into the month. I can't promise I will follow along every day but I will sure try! Today's prompt is sorry..but I'm not sorry so here we go!

That I am political. I feel strongly about my beliefs. It matters and even when I get on here and bash Republicans, I still understand they have the right to feel, think, vote and say what they want. But I won't apologize for actually standing up and speaking out.

that chances are, you will be covered in cat/dog hair if you come to visit. They are our furry family and most of the time we like them better than most people. Don't come visit wearing black!

that I never check voicemails. I know it might be rude but I just can't stand listening to them. You better text or email if you are really trying to get a hold of me. Right now there are 15 messages and you couldn't even leave one if you wanted.

I am a planner and schedule addicted. I know how well my day goes when I follow a schedule.  I am also - sorry I am not sorry - when I get a little testy about changes in the calendar. I just like a neat and tidy planner and changes just mess it up!

that I am just not a neighborly person. I just don't like the Russian Spies on the left of me and the animal abusers on the right of me..I need a country house!

that I have fought back with the mean commentators, haters, and gossipers who like to criticize and judge. Even though I think they are seriously becoming my greatest teachers and maybe I should send the assholes a thank you card, I meant everything I said and I am not sorry about it at all.  If you don't like me.. why be on my blog or my youtube channels? Makes no sense to me.

that I don't exercise...Yea. I am so not doing that stuff. Maybe some walking and or yoga but that's where I have to draw the line. I can find better things to do to get hot, sweaty, and tired.

that most of the time my life is such not pin-able image that I can put on pinterest. Most of the time there is a basket of towels waiting on me to fold them, a sink full of dishes that I need to tend to, toys laying in the hallway, and I am so not sorry for it. We live here, its our home not some cold museum. We live a very real life here and I wouldn't want it any other way!

Have a great night!

The → Best ← BBQ Chicken & Delicious Baked Cauliflower VIDEO

Hello friends! I hope you are having a great afternoon! I am back today with a dinner recipe that will surely knock your socks off. This BBQ Chicken is one of the best ever and not difficult to make! I served it up with a side dish of baked cauliflower that is both healthy and delicious! If you want to see how to make them, everything you need to know is in the video and the recipes in full are below!

Thanks for watching! Be sure to come back and let me know what you thought about it!

Ingredients:

2 pounds boneless, skinless breasts
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 1/2 tablespoons sweet paprika
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
4 teaspoons sugar
2-3 slices raw bacon, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
Your favorite BBQ sauce

Instructions:

1. Cut the chicken into 1-inch cubes.
2.  In a large bowl, toss the chicken with the salt. Then cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes and up to 1 hour.
3. Heat your grill. You can use gas but I like charcoal. Don't add a ton of coals and let it burn down a lot to reduce the temperature. Also if you are using wood skewers, be sure to soak them first.
4. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels.
5. In a small bowl, combine the paprikas and sugar.
6. Place the raw bacon in a food processor and pulse for about 30-45 seconds, until a smooth paste forms.
7. Mix with hands or spatula until the ingredients are blended and chicken is coated.
8.Thread the chicken onto the skewers.
9. Grill the chicken with the lid turned for about 5 minutes.
10. Flip the kebabs and brush with BBQ sauce; flip.
 11. cook until sauce is browned in spots, about 1 minute.
12.Brush second side with sauce; flip and cook for another minute or so, until cooked through.
13.Remove kebabs from grill and let rest for 5 minutes.
14. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 large head cauliflower

1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
 3-4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup margarine, melted
pinch garlic powder
 Pinch of salt
         pinch red pepper flakes
pinch dried oregano

Instructions:

1. Clean cauliflower, and trim off leaves and any brown spots.
2. Place the whole head of cauliflower into a steamer basket, place the basket in a large pot, and add one inch of water.
3.Cover, and bring to a boil over medium heat. Cook for about 20 minutes or until tender.
4. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
5. In a medium bowl, mix together the bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, melted margarine. Season with garlic powder, salt, red pepper flakes, and oregano, and mix well.
6. Place the head of cauliflower into a baking dish, and coat with the breadcrumb mixture.Bake for about 10 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown. I like to use the broiler in the last couple of minutes to really brown it up.
7. Enjoy!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Happy Wednesday Friends! Time for another Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce from over at From This Side of the Pond ....this is always such a fun linkup.. join in anytime! Hope you enjoy.

1. "Summer is like childhood. It's full of warm memories and gone too soon."~Kellie Elmore  Agree or disagree? Share something you loved about the summers of your childhood.

I totally agree! Summer always goes by fast if you don't live in a tropical area! Gosh...I had so many great summer memories growing up. The late even fire fly competitions were pretty amazing. All the kids around in the evenings would come together around our house and catch fireflies. It was always fun running around the back yard catching them with our hands, putting them in mason jars and adding up who caught how many. I always thought my brother caught more because he was taller! :)

And it might have not been the nicest thing to do but we cut little air holes in the tops of the jars and kept the glowing fireflies in our rooms for the night. It was like a natural organic nightlight!

2. Are you a fan of auto racing-NASCAR, Indy, Stock, Grand Prix, etc? Ever been to a race in person? Any desire to do this?  Do you know a lot about cars? Do you notice particular makes and models when you're out and about?

I lived in Indiana most of my life so I went to the Indy 500 a few times but it was so loud...just not my thing. I drive a little Volkswagen bug and it always seems like I see bugs everywhere. I think that's the way it goes when any of us get a new car....we start noticing the same kind of car driving around. :)

3. What's something you think is too serious to be joked about? Or do you think anything and everything is fair game?

I think if your job is a comedian then everything is fair game...otherwise use compassion and empathy before making a joke at someone other persons expense.

4. July 29th is National Lasagna Day. Are you a fan? Do you have a great recipe, and if so where did it come from? If given a choice would you choose a plate of lasagna or a plate of spaghetti?

I love lasagna and is one of my favorite ways to make it! I would probably pick spaghetti if the lasagna was not made with ground beef and cottage cheese. I am not a fan of ricotta or sausage in my lasagna.

5. What's a simple pleasure you'd miss if it were not a regular part of your life?

As I have gotten a little bit older, I have realized how much I enjoy the quiet day. I like having the door open that leads off our family room which also doubles as a first floor office for me. I love the sound of nature...the wind, the sound of it raining but one of my very favorite simple pleasures right now are the little song birds that live in the trees in our backyard. Everyday, I open that door when I get up and can't wait to hear what they are going to sing to me. Having a houseful of kitty cats pretty much rules out the idea of actually owning a bird but I would love to have one in the house that would sing to me all the time! However, I kinda feel torn about that because maybe it wouldn't sing me such beautiful hems if it was locked and confined in a cage. Maybe the free birds sing the loudest and the best because after all, they are free. Free to fly, free to sing, free to bath after a warm summer rain.. I will totally miss them when winter comes around. I also recently just began feeding them so maybe they are singing for their dinner now... who knows!

6. If you could be the CEO of any company, which would you choose?

I would have to go with Google. I know many many people love Apple but I personally think that Google is going to take over the world. They are doing things that are far beyond a lot of our imaginations. It would be a lot of work but I think it would be one amazing job. And just so you know, it was hard picking between Google and Nike but Google won!

7. August is just around the bend...bid farewell to July in exactly seven words.

Goodbye Summer...hello new 2014-15 school year!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Gosh, it seems like summer is going fast. I can still remember bitching about the cold weather and how I wanted summer so badly but it seems to be fading in a hurry. I always consider August a new beginning of sorts because its the start of a new school year for us. We have our oldest daughter who recently graduated from college but we still have 1 soon to be 7th grader and two soon to be 6th graders! We are fast approaching a very busy time of year for many of us. This week is no exception. I have been doing my best to get things a little more updated and organized before we start the new school year. We pick Jackson up Sunday. He spent the summer with his dad and now its time to come home and get serious again. Thankfully we in South Carolina start school a little later - August 18 - but we still have a lot of things to do including Dr and Dentist appointments, school shopping, school registration, meet the teacher and even a long weekend at Myrtle Beach before the first day of school! Its going to be crazy busy and I hope we just make it out alive!  Yesterday I posted my homemade laundry soap recipe that you should check out when you have time. Its cheap, easy and super effective in cleaning the laundry. So many people requested it and I am so happy its up! Also TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO GET ENTERED IN THE ERIN CONDREN GIVEWAY! So get entered for your chance for a $60 gift card! I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday. I'll be back later today with a recipe that will knock your socks off! Stay tuned! :)

My Easy, Cheap, & Effective Homemade Laundry Soap Recipe VIDEO

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

Hello friends, I am back today with my updated homemade laundry soap. I have made it a few different ways in the past but this updated recipe is my favorite! Its super easy and cheap to make and is really effective in cleaning the laundry. If you want to see how I make it, everything you need to know is in the video! More pictures and full recipe below.

As I said, I have tried a lot of different methods. This was one of them which I grated ivory soap. It worked great and I liked the way it looked in the jar but I quickly grew tired of grating soap. Then new items were coming out like the Downy UnStopables that go into washer rather than the dryer. So it incorporated rather nice into the recipe. Also I am using the Fels Naptha soap that I found in Wamart for about $1 a bar. Last time, I couldn't find it and used the ivory. Both work well.

3 bars Fels Naptha, grated ($1x 3) ( or 6 bars of Ivory Soap )
1 box Borax  ($5  - 76 ounces)
1 box Washing Soda ($4  -  55 ounces)
2 cups of baking soda ($.50 cents)
1 container of OxyClean or Las Totally Awesome Oxygen Powder ( found at Dollar Tree $1 )
1-2 container Downy Unstopables  ($7 - 13.2 ounces)

To grate the Fels Naptha I decided to not use the grater and instead use my food processor. I found it easier to add a little bit of the Oxygen Powder to help the blades chop up the soap.
Use a large container ( even a garbage bag works ) to mix up the soap and rest of the ingredients. You need to really take your time and make sure its well incorporated.

Use two or three scoops per load ( depending on the size of your washer ) and don't worry if it doesn't suds up as much as other laundry soaps. It will suds a little but not a lot. Cleaning power of any soap does not depend on suds...so don't worry! Also this is perfectly safe for HE washers. The key is a fine grind! No big, bulky chunks…as HE machines use less water and don’t break down large chunks of soap.

I like to use the rubbermaid storage container to mix and store the laundry soap on the top shelf of our laundry room. But for convenience I keep a glass container on my dryer for easy access.

This recipe will last you a long long time. It really depends on the size of your family and how much laundry you do. For most people I think one batch will last a family of 4 at least 6 months. But again it depends on the size of your family and if you are measuring correctly. Its cheaper, it works just as well if not better than store bought laundry detergents and easy to make. I think giving these out to family and friends for holidays or whenever is a great way to share the love. My sister is a working college student and I just made her a batch that I will give her in a couple weeks. I would love to hear from you if you have a homemade laundry recipe that you love ...if you care to share! If you have any questions leave them below or on youtube! Stayed tuned for a quick laundry tip that has to do with softener sheets or the lack there of!

Snaps & Likes...a linkup

I recently found this fun July linkup from Juliette that I thought I would join in a little late into the month. I can't promise I will follow along every day but I will sure try!  I am making up with Monday post combining it with today's...hope you don't mind!

Yesterday Monday's link was  3 Pictures -  1 of anything, 1 you took, and 1 selfie.

Here's my pictures:

My Anything: So if you are a follower of anything of mine, you know I am on the search for a Afghan Hound to join our family. It probably won't happen until after the first of the year but I am really wanting this dog to move in! Look how beautiful and majestic this dog is! I feel like for the first stage in my life we have had golden retriever - you know because they are good with the kids - The middle stage will be this beautiful breed of dog - and in the last chapters of my life I will get a small dog that is easy to care for. Right now.. I'm in the middle and its time to find my dream puppy! :)

My Selfie: I am also a cat person and I loved this selfie I took with Romeo. The sun was shinning so beautifully but I wish Romeo had a better look on his face. I love it though.. its a favorite!

My picture: I took this picture a couple years ago of the kids. They are seriously the best things I ever did. They are such sweet independent little people who teach me more about myself everyday. Both are growing up so fast and along the way, trying to figure out who they are and how they fit into this world. They consume my thoughts most days and my goal in life is to make sure that after I am gone, they will be ok. That they will be able to stand on their own feet, make strong decisions, who love God and who be themselves... no matter who that might be. They are my hope.

Today's Topic: All about ME. 5 Things I like about myself.

1. My planning abilities: I am a planner through and through. I love calendars, planners, and kind of organization really. But I am super good at planning things out. Almost to a fault because if life happens as it normally does, it doesn't make me too happy when things go off schedule. But I am good planner even if every detail is not followed!

2. Being a Homebody: I like being a homebody. I use to do the clubs and all that kind of stuff ( ha! almost 20 years ago...wow, I feel old ) but as time passed, I quickly figured out...home is where I belong. I feel safe and secure here. Some people think being a hermit is not such a good thing but I beg to differ!

3. My eyes: I hate to admit it but its basically the only good thing my father has given me. We have identical eyes which I do get complimented on them a lot which does make me feel good. However, its not really the same for me being I only occasionally see them in the mirror or pictures! :) And lets face it, they have shown me everything.

4. My Confidence: It has taken a long while to figure out what I believe in, what matters to me and feel comfortable in my own skin. After 38 years on this earth, I am starting to figure it out. I feel better in my decisions and that all comes from wisdom from my life experiences. But it also comes from wisdom of people who have been there before.

5. My Love: I feel like I love hard. I am loyal and think love is one of the only things you can take with you. I fall in love many times a day with as many things as I can. I have compassion for others and I want the world to be a better place and we do that through L♥ve.

Weekly Food Shopping Haul | VIDEO |

Monday, July 28, 2014

Hello friends! I hope you are having a great evening. I am back with this weeks food/household haul. I have to admit, with a kid free summer our grocery budget has really went down. Scott and I just don't eat that much and just last week we ate 3 of our dinners out. I am totally able to push meals into the next week by simply freezing the meat items when I get home. I can't tell you how helpful this is. Its not always easy to remember to lay something out to thaw but its much better than tossing your fresh meats in your frig and not getting to them before they go bad. No matter when I plan on a having a certain dinner, if its not for that particular night, its goes in the freezer! If you want to see what we got for this week, a maybe even get some menu ideas, enjoy the video below!

Thanks so much for watching! I hope you have a beautiful night...I will be back tomorrow afternoon with a video showing how I make our homemade laundry soap! I have already done a blog post over 3 years ago and I think its time to do a updated video! Stay tuned.
